If you think an employee needs to be assessed for ill-health retirement, please follow the process below:
- A manager will need to complete an occupational health referral on behalf of the employee. The referral process is explained here.
- Our occupational health doctor will carry out the assessment. This will usually include assessing an employee’s capability to do their role, as well as gathering medical evidence about their illness or injury. Our findings will advise a manager or employer on whether it is reasonable to consider retirement or the termination of a contract based on someone’s ill health.
